Community Service

For the third consecutive year, the Society took part in Hands on DC, an all-volunteer non-profit effort that runs an annual one day work-a-thon to improve conditions in DC's public schools and raise money for college scholarships. This year we helped to paint murals at the KIPP AIM School in Southeast DC on April 25. It's our way of giving back to our home away from Connecticut. View more pictures.

American Warrior is an organization based in Norwich that brings Connecticut World War II veterans to DC for a Day of Honor to see their memorial and visit many of DC’s other memorials to those who served our nation. From giving a hero’s welcome at National Airport to viewing the Iwo Jima Memorial at dusk, I think those of us who participated will agree that it was a moving experience we will never forget. On September 26, we joined with other State Societies to fly the Connecticut flag at the National Moment of Remembrance at the U.S. Capitol. The White House Commission on Remembrance was established to honor the sacrifices of our fallen soldiers and their families. It was a moving ceremony and we were proud to meet and thank the families of several Connecticut soldiers who sacrificed their life for our nation. View more pictures.

National Cherry Blossom Festival

2010

Connecticut Cherry Blossom Princess Caitlin Donohue (East Hampton) and her escort, Connecticut Society member Jesse Young attended the 62nd Annual Sushu Reception, Dinner and Grand Ball at the Grand Hyatt. The wheel didn't land on Connecticut this year, but Caitlin had a great experience.

Board members Scott Morris, Liz Muro, and Brian Mahar joined Caitlin and members of the Maine State Society and Massachusetts State Society for the New England Cherry Blossom Princess Reception on April 8 at the Fort Myer Officer's Club.

We'd like to thank Nutmeg Club members Travelers and Mystic Seaport Museum, as well as The Hartford and Vineyard Vines for contributing to the bags of indigenous gifts we gave to the other princesses.

2009

For the first time in several years, Connecticut was represented at the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Below, Connecticut Cherry Blossom Princess Liz Malerba of Uncasville is escorted at the Grand Ball by her escort, Travis Cronin of West Hartford. View more pictures or read more about it in the New London Day.
