3, 2008Virginia Gold Cup Horse Races The Connecticut Society enjoyed our annual all day outing
to the beautiful rolling Virginia countryside to view a traditional
steeplechase race. A charter bus took members
and their guests on a 45-minute scenic drive to the beautiful Great
Meadow in The Plains, where Nutmeggers received admission to our
rail side chalet tent, featuring a premier view of the action, catered
food, and lots of drinks! To view pictures, go to our photo album. |

Community Service
The Connecticut Society joined Hands on DC for their 2008 work-a-thon. On Saturday, April 26, Society members helped to clean up the grounds of Bunker Hill Elementary School and paint the fence. They worked with Hands on DC, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that runs an annual one day work-a-thon that improves conditions in the public schools and raises money for college scholarships. Since 1994 more than 26,000 volunteers have created a better environment for learning in over 120 schools and have collected more than $500,000 to help local students pay for further education. 2008 Annual Congressional Reception
The Congressional Reception is one of the premier events of the Society's social calendar, and honors Connecticut’s Congressional Delegation. The reception is open to all members of the Society and gives Nutmeggers the opportunity to talk to their elected officials one-on-one. This year we were honored to be joined by Senator Chris Dodd, Congressman John Larson, Congressman Joe Courtney, and Congressman Chris Murphy. See pictures from the event on our photo album. |
