2011 Gold Cup Races
Please join us on Saturday, May 7, 2011
at Great Meadows in the Plains, Virginia. Charter buses will take
Connecticut Society members and their guests on a 45- minute scenic
drive to Great Meadows. Upon arrival, Nutmeggers will receive admission
to the Connecticut Society chalet tent, which will feature a premier
view of the action, plus catered food and drink!
The charter buses will leave Washington,
D.C. on May 7 promptly at 10:00 a.m., and will depart Great Meadows
after the last race. Opening ceremonies will begin, rain or shine,
at 1:00 p.m.. The pony races will begin before noon. In keeping with
tradition, proper afternoon dress is requested by the Virginia Gold
Cup Association.
Connecticut Society members can join
us for $75 and non-members for $100. If you are not a member and would
like to join, you can join us at the races and become a member of
the Society for a special $90 rate. Payment is required before the
day of the event to secure your space.

Connecticut Society Announces 2011 Cherry
Blossom Princess
At this year's Senator Dodd Congressional
Reception we announced that Rebecca Crosswaith of Newington will represent
Connecticut at the 2011
National Cherry Blossom Festival. Rebecca is a graduate of Simmons
College and is in D.C. working at AmeriCorps. Below, Rebecca is flanked
by Connecticut Society Cherry Blossom Committee Co-chairs Liz Malerba
(2009 Princess) and Caitlin Donohue (2010 Princess).

Christopher J. Dodd Congressional Reception
Nearly 200 members and guests enjoyed our 22nd annual
congressional reception to honor members of the Connecticut congressional
delegation and their staff. Congressmen John Larson, Joe Courtney,
Chris Murphy and Jim Himes attended the event.

CT Society Honors Veterans at Arlington National Cemetary
Connecticut Society members joined Maine Society members
and countless others in laying wreaths at the headstones of veterans
at Arlington National Cemetery on December 11. The Society was able
to locate and honor Connecticut members of the Army, Air Force, Marine
Corps and Navy. View more photos here.
CT Society Community Service
On Saturday, May 1, CT Society members joined approximately
100 World War II veterans are taking an all-expenses-paid day trip
from CT to DC to see the memorial honoring them. This trip is organized
and provided by AmericanWarrior, a
nonprofit organization based in Norwich.
On Saturday, May 15, CT Society members
gave back to our home away from home by participating in Hands on
DC for the fourth year in a row. Hands on DC is an all-volunteer,
nonprofit organization that conducts an annual citywide work-a-thon
to improve the physical condition of DC public schools.
